INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT ELDERLY RESIDENTIAL

The current trend is to enter nursing homes dependents, albeit for different reasons, mostly alone, also home to autonomous persons.

In a review conducted on 212 institutionalized elderly using the Katz Index (IK) to assess the dependence or independence for the development of the basic activities of daily living (ADL) are:

  • autonomous (IK-A): 21%

  • Dependent
  • mild (IK-B, C, H): 13%

  • Dependent
  • moderate (IK-D, E, F): 24%

  • Dependent serious (IK-G): 42%

The data obtained are similar to those published by the Dra.Marta Fernandez Moreno et al. in "Analysis of health costs in private residential facilities for older people."

makers of residential and public institutions should not forget the existence of a demand for independent elderly who want an option ABVD live in residence.
